17-year-old student Gavin Robinson decided to mark his graduation at South Plantation High School in Florida with a backflip. However, his classmate forgot he was going to do the move and ended up getting hit.
“When I jumped in the air and felt I hit my classmate, I thought, ‘Oh, this can’t be happening,’” Robinson told People magazine. The student hit his classmate Amelia in the face.

She was walking up to the stage, waving and looking at the audience when she got kicked in the face. Other students and teachers were shocked by the scene, which has been viewed more than 20,000 times on TikTok.
“Hey, everyone! I’m fine and didn’t get hurt. He really warned me beforehand, I just got distracted,” she said in a video alongside Robinson.
“Afterwards, when we sat down, we were laughing together. One of my friends was laughing about it in the group chat and was the first to post the video,” the young man said.

The student was heavily criticized for his choice of maneuver but said the situation was memorable even though it was a “mistake.”
“Thinking about it now, I would definitely do the backflip again. I think the result was as good as, if not better, than if I had hit properly,” he told People.
